SEASON OF JOYFUL GIVING, opportunities for those who want to make a difference in our community - today was about foster children:

To learn more about becoming a foster parent or for info on the Napa County Foster Parent Association contact Doris Gentry:  doris@dorisgentry.com

Founded and directed by Peggy Smith, a local foster parent, Expressions of Hope creates care packages for new children entering a foster home by filling diaper bags for infants and backpacks for toddlers, elementary aged children, and teens with items that will bring a sense of familiarity during an uncertain time.

For a list of items requested and to make a donation go to the website:  expressionsofhopenapa.org

VOICES is an organization that assists foster teens who are "aging out" of the system with transitioning into life on their own - supporting them with resources and money to help with college, housing and skills for living as an adult.

To become a volunteer, make a donation and/or to assist them with their new building (many tasks needed - painting, renovations, etc.) please contact Amber McCurdy at VOICES - 707.251.9432 or go to the website:  voicesyouthcenter.org

CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocates - are volunteers who are assigned to a child, providing continuity, support and communication with that child's teachers, medical providers, foster parents and others in their life.  The child's CASA volunteer is their advocate!  More volunteers are needed in order to serve every child on the list.  To learn more about being a volunteer contact Julie DiVerde 707.257.2272 (257.CASA)

Jeannie Morris with the Napa County Office of Education explained how her department supports foster children with making sure they get what they need for their education.  One of the ways is by providing volunteer tutor/mentors to the kids.  If you would like more information on being a tutor/mentor, please contact Jeannie at 707.253.6954
